We were commissioned by Turkish developer Tekfen Oz to design an important commercial office building in the central business district of Istanbul. The initial concept was developed with Molestina Architects, Germany, and we provided local architectural services at all stages of the project from Concept to CD.
The client has sought a literal expression of the sustainability objectives for the project. The development occupies a tight central urban site and will be one of the first LEED Gold accredited office developments in Central Istanbul.
The most challenging and unique part of the project uses the envelope design, shading systems and glazing technology to create solar shading while not compromising internal light levels.
The external screen of aluminium poles provides an initial solar shading device, and is the first component of the “green” expression of the design concept. A landscaped zone on all the facades before the glass screens further reinforces the man-made screen. Different plant species occupy this zone depending on orientation and height of the facade.
The result is a planted facade which not only enriches the identity but adds a unique backdrop to the internal office areas. We also designed the interior elements for the public areas - main entrance lobbies, lift lobbies, lifts and inner garden zones.
